New Spaces, founded by Doug and Carol Nelson in the early 1980s, is a family-run design/build firm now led by their son, Shawn Nelson. A respected Twin Cities industry leader for over 20 years, Shawn has served as BATC President, NAHB Life Director, and currently sits on the Bloomington City Council and CVB board. New Spaces was honored with the BBB Integrity Award in 2006 and continues to earn recognition for its remodeling work.

Meet our Speaker: Bjorn Freudenthal | Homeowner Advisor/VP - New Spaces
Bjorn is a dual citizen who grew up in Helsinki, Finland and later moved to Minnesota after an inspiring exchange program. He enjoys spending time at his family cabin in Finland with his wife and two adult children, especially boating and fishing on the Gulf of Finland.

Professionally, Bjorn is a Qualifying Builder and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist with over 20 years of experience designing and remodeling award-winning homes across the Twin Cities. He’s a past President of NARI MN and has served in several leadership roles nationally. A frequent speaker and media contributor, Bjorn shares insights on remodeling, home design, and industry trends.
