DESCRIPTION:Blast into the stratosphere with Mathnasium and inspire your student at our FREE Movie Night and Rocketry presentation!\n\n\n\nJoin us with St. Louis Park resident and high-powered Rocketeer Gary Stroick of offwegorocketry.com\, and Rocket Scientist Laura Mills\, as we watch the movie October Sky\, talk rockets and learn how math can help take YOU to new heights!\n\n\n\nThe event will be held at Kiddywampus\, located at 4400 Excelsior Boulevard in St. Louis Park\, just 2 blocks east of Mathnasium.\n\nA food donation for VEAP is requested. Snacks and beverages will be served. And we will also have a few prizes to give away!\n\n\n\nSpace is limited to the first 60 who Join our Facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/212798558863517/) or call our center at 612-568-4590 to reserve their spot.\n\n\n\nGary will start the evening with a display of his rockets and video of launches\, followed by a short presentation of how math is used in the design\, simulation and measurement of high-powered rockets that soar up to 90\,000 feet! Laura will also have video and a short presentation of NASA's Stardust Program that she helped design and manage. Then we'll show the movie October Sky. The film is based on a true story about 16 year old Homer Hickam\, who facing a future certain to land him in the coal mines\, was inspired by the launch of the Russian satellite Sputnik to learn how to build a rocket. When a teacher believes in him\, Homer overcomes his own challenges and the doubt and ridicule of his friends and family to eventually win a science contest and the grand prize - a college scholarship that changed the direction of his life.
