SUMMARY:General Membership Meeting (B.E.E.R. Event)
DESCRIPTION:This event is SOLD OUT! No walk-in registrations will be allowed.\n\nPlease join us for a B.E.E.R. luncheon (Bloomington\, Eden Prairie\, Edina and Richfield Chambers of Commerce) at Edina County Club for an amazing talk by Ann Bancroft\, an adventurer\, author and teacher.\n\n\n\nAnn Bancroft is one of the world's preeminent polar explorers. She was the first woman to successfully finish a number of arduous expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic and is an internationally recognized leader dedicated to inspiring women and girls around the world to unleash the power of their dreams. She is the founder of the Ann Bancroft Foundation with the purpose of inspiring women and girls around the world to unleash the power of their dreams. Ann believes that by sharing stories related to her dreams of outdoor adventure\, she can help inspire a global audience to pursue their individual dreams.\n\n \n\nIn 1986 she gave up her teaching job in order to participate with the "Steger International Polar Expedition". She arrived at the North Pole together with five other team members after 55 days using dogsleds. This made Bancroft the first known woman to reach the North Pole on foot and by sled. She was also the first known woman to cross both polar ice caps to reach the North and South Poles\, as well as the first woman to ski across Greenland on skis. In 1993 Bancroft led the first all-female expedition to cross the ice to the South Pole with a team of four women. In 2001\, Ann and Norwegian adventurer Liv Arnesen became the first women to ski across Antarctica.\n\n \n\nIn October-November 2014\, Bancroft and Arnesen will lead a team of six women\, from six continents\, on an 2525 km (1\,569 mile)\, 60-day long expedition following the River Ganges from Gaumukh to the Bay of Bengal. \n\n\n\n\n\nMs. Bancroft will also be selling and signing her book\, $20\n\nNo Horizon Is So Far: Two Women and Their Historic Journey Across Antarctica
